Photochromic sunglasses have a lens that darkens when exposed to UV light/sunlight. This allows the glasses to adapt to the light conditions you are exposed to at the time. So when you're out on the lake on a sunny day, the lenses get darker, and if you use them indoors, they get lighter.

Please note! Photochromic sunglasses are not recommended for driving. The lenses adjust their transparency based on UV light exposure, but car windshields often block most of the UV rays.
