Running Lines

Running lines are the part of the fly line between your backing and the head. Running lines often have loops to make them easier to attach between the backing and the head part. Your choice of running line is important and depends on the other parts of your fly line. Your choice of running line has a big impact on how far you cast with your fly rod. It is important that you choose the correct diameter to match the rest of the line. If you choose a running line that is too thin, you will get more tangles and the running line will not stretch out as it should. If you choose a line too thick running line, you will have slower line speeds and shorter casts.

Coated running line

These generally give shorter casts and less tangle than coated running lines. Coated running lines roll over more smoothly and present the head in a softer way. Works particularly well when fly fishing in slow moving water, still water and when wading along the coast.

Uncoated running line

Running line with a harder, smoother surface that gives you longer casts and shoots out easier. These lines need to be stretched before each fishing session.
