LEARN TO FISH PIKE PELAGICALLY
Three hot tips to succeed with your pelagic pike fishing!
Fish high at the beginning and try your way down in the water columns, the pike rise quickly and can stand close to the surface.
Make fewer pauses when fishing pelagically. Pike are used to chasing fleeing fish and often strike while cranking.
Don't forget to test the hardbaits! It can be really effective, as you can see in the video!

USED BAITS
Rigging your rubber lure with a single hook and a treble hook can be a really good idea, especially if you expect to catch a lot of pike or if you don't fish the very biggest lures. You won't necessarily hook fewer fish, but you'll spare more fish.
As well as sparing more fish, you'll also reduce the risk of accidentally hooking yourself. The whole process of unhooking the fish will take considerably less time, fewer hooks will get tangled up in the net and you can concentrate on fishing instead of cutting poorly seated hooks and then replacing them.
Simply put, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in most cases!
Henke's tip: In my boxes there are almost only 10/0 and 8/0 jig heads. The most important thing in my opinion is that you have enough space between the hook tip and the rubber bait itself so that you can hook well. For example, rigging a bit upwards on a SöderJiggen often gives good results. Going up to a 12/0 on the Scout Shad XL is not something that I consider necessary as such a large hook will be unnecessarily heavy. The important thing is the hook gap and not how far back the hook sits in most cases!

FISHING RODS
When choosing a pike fishing rod, you don't base it on "how big fish" you're going to catch, but rather "how big baits" you want to cast. When fishing for pelagic pike, you usually use slightly larger lures with heavier weights. The result is that you should preferably go up a size in the casting weight of the rod.
Another important aspect is the length of the rod. In this form of pike fishing, no precise casts are needed, but you want to cast as far as possible to cover as much water as possible. Hence, you want a slightly longer rod that both casts long, but also gives you the ability to lift a lot of line to set the hook at the end of a long cast.

If you want to fish jerkbait like in the movie, it can be beneficial to go down in length to make it easier to maneuver the bait and get a nice side-to-side action.

REELS
When fishing for pelagic pike, you can actually use your regular pike reel. Using a casting reel can be advantageous as it makes it easier to cast heavy baits, which you often do. A size 300 casting reel, or the 5000 size of a classic ambassadeur works great. If you are throwing really big baits of several hundred grams, it may be worth going up a size on the reel to 400 or 6000. Not because you need it to get the fish up, but because the heavier the bait, the more it wears on the gear.
Due to current circumstances, the reels used in the film may be hard to come by, but below we list alternatives that are just as good!

LINES
When fishing pelagically, a balance must be struck. This is because the thinner the line, the easier it is to get the bait down. But a thinner line also increases the risk of the line snapping off if you happen to get an overrun.
Below you can see good options for lines and dimensions:
