Summary

On the August 1988 issue of Trout and Salmon, Alastair Gowans revealed his latest creation — the Ally’s Shrimp — to the salmon fishing world. Little did he realize at the time the impact it would have. In his article, Alastair wrote: “It is worth a try any time from late spring to late autumn, and fish have been taken on it from the Dee, Tay, Tummel, Tweed and Esks.” Since then, the Ally’s Shrimp has likely taken fish from every salmon-producing river in the world.

Productinformation

Alastair Gowans’s intention was to create the illusion of something “shrimpy” and semi-translucent. Some claim this fly is especially effective for late-season and autumn fishing, but we believe this is a myth. Ally’s performs well all season long. Choose the size and weight of the fly based on water level and depth. Bigger flies early in the season and smaller ones in low water are also good recommendations for Ally’s Shrimp.
